Appendix E – MA Presentation
OK. So, good morning everyone. This is…My name is
XXXXX. My student number is XXXXX and the title of the todays
presentation is marketing. How to recruit students. And, possible
audience is colleague teachers. OK, here we go.
Uh, this is my presentation structure, and mostly uh, I
emphasize on the (indecipherable) for the recruit students
and lastly please speak to, ask to me to, the, some questions.
OK. So, before starting to my presentations, in my, uh,
in Jap…, I'm a student, I am a teacher of a junior high
school students in Japan, in Tokyo. And uh, in deciding the
schools, er, teachers, uh, parents power is, in Japan, also,
er, still prominent.
So, 50% of the decision will make by, er, made by parents,
and also…So, I set marketing plans from the both parents
and the students. This is the school where Im, I work, and,
a number of the students are at this moment is, about 300.
And, almost every year we welcome about 100 students. However,
last year, we just welcomed only 68 students there, so my
marketing role will be the 30% and up, should be the…80,
88 students.
And, er…so, here's the questionnaire by the…from
the parents, let's look at the data from the parents side.
Er, parents said that (indecipherable) and club activities
are also very very important factors, however, data itself
is very, also very important. What I mean, in this case by
data, is that, uh, how many percent of the students go to
the top ten school.
In Japan, especially, ranking very important, so, er, most
parents care about that. So, next, here's the some data. Look
at this. So (indecipherable) agreed this agreement, uh, this
title. Look at…uh, 17…uh, (indecipherable) all
total, more than 40 % of the parents agree with school should
be run on Saturdays, too.
However, students don't, doesn't, don't have to come to school…s,
but, they want to ask to have a lessons on Saturday, too.
So, Id like to mention about for their, about studies. Look
at this. We have, in Japan, we have three license tests. Chinese
character tests, math tests, and lastly, English proficiency
test. But, these tests, all of them are very important for
them. Because, if they have, uh, pass this kind of test, they
are qualified to (indecipherable) resume in taking the exam.
So, my suggestion is, er, why don't we have a chance to
provide Saturday lessons in the morning in the turn by all
the teachers. I'll ask, I'll ask, eh, schools strength is
the teachers' enthusiasm, I think. So, I want to suggest that
this way.
Second, during long holidays. in Japan, uh, even though
there are low students at school, we need, er, we request
to attend a school from 8:30 to 5 o'clock, so, we'd like to
suggest, I'd like to suggest that to provide a extra lesson
to the, during the holidays. But, some students like to say
that if not enough for them, so, I'd like to suggest one more
ideas, "Open library after classes".
In Japan, the maximum number of the students are 40, so it
might be difficult to ask questions in, during the lessons,
but, we should, we provide one teacher in the library, so
its easier to access for them, for the students to ask, er,
some questions.
This is my idea. And secondly, self studies for higher education.
Academic and career counselling. As a students grew older,
and er, the entrance exam is coming year, they also feel worried
about their course, So, I'd like to suggest two ideas.
Number 1 is a (indecipherable) counselling system. (indecipherable)
counselling system is a, we invite graduate students once
a month and we provide the students about the discussion time,
er, about their course.
Number 2 is a cyber café. This is what I already done
in my classroom. I, er, I already gave them, uh, the, my email
address and the students can access me all the anytime, and
also, with, anonymous names OK. So, this, next year, I'd like
all the teachers to provide cyber café system to, for
the students, uh, for the interaction between the students.
OK. So, next. Let's look at the, from the students side.
This is a, my interest at school. The, this survey done
by the ministry of the education. Uh, students wants, uh,
find, er, interests at, uh, classes and uh, clubs and, but,
look at this. This area. Club activities are think, uh, thought
to be the very important. It's, actually, takes, uh, plays
er, very important role in their school's life.
So, 36 students think that its very interesting. So, this
is project to promote club activities. We, at this moment,
our school has only 8 club activities so far. And, uh, this
year, this year, we'd like, I'd like suggest all the teachers
have a club activities. So, now, we have a 20 students, uh,
20 teachers, uh, in our school. So, next year, I'd like to
suggest 20s club activities, uh, will be opened, uh, for the
students.
So, that means they have a easy access for the variety of
club activities. So, uh, thatll be a very good idea, I think,
I believe. Secondly, last year, we, uh, our, one of the, some
of the club activities, actually visited primary school for
promoting club activities. So, for example, look at this picture.
Last year, our, our brass band club were, uh, won the second
year, uh, second prize in Tokyo. This is a marching parade
at Tokyo station. They went to the primary school to, for
advertisement. And this club activity is also very famous.
I want all the teachers to activate, uh, like this, uh, club
activities.
Actually, after a getting, uh, after, the primary school
students came into, uh, came to our school some, most of them
think that this is very favourable act. Yeah. And, secondly,
uh, lastly, I want to suggest open campus.
This is the chance for the primary students to experience
our club activities. Uh, if they come to our school, and to
enjoy at our school, they, which might reduce their anxiety
in choosing our school. So, it'll be get easier for them to
come to our school.
Lastly, uh, some, here are some other suggestions to have
good understanding of school. Uh…I want all, I want,
uh, principals to say to the parents that every time, all
the time, uh, you can come, uh, parents can come to our school
to check our quality of our teachers, uh, teachers lesson.
So, I want to suggest classroom observation week. And, secondly,
having a good website. Actually, we have a web site, but it's
not good enough. So, I want to set all of the computer to
provide some of information and also, some of the, our lessons.
So, it'll be help to understand have a good understanding
of our school.
And, uh, thirdly, I want to suggest that one day teacher
program. One day teacher program, in the One day teacher program,
we invite uh, one of the tea.. one of the parents or the local
people to give the students, uh, some lessons.
And, once they involved in our school, and they, uh, she
or he see our students attitude for the students. They might
be, uh, they might be one of our, one of our side, and they
might be a good advocator for our school.
And lastly, uh, free use of school facility. We have, uh,
all the junior high school have, uh, play ground and gymnasium,
of course in our school, too, but, in Japan, play ground or
gymnasium is, kind of, holly place or secret place. If nobody's
there, even though nobody's there, nobody is allowed to use
it. So, if we can provide the free use of the school facility,
they might have a very good image for our school. So…uh,
yeah. This is my…uh…thank you.
And, uh, lastly, to promote the, to recruit lots of students
takes lots of energy from other teachers and, uh, lots of
support. But, I think, I believe that our strength, our good
strength of our school is, uh, teachers enthusiasm, so I think,
this project will be successful in the, in the next year.
Thank you very much.
